Just got back from a Vietnamese wedding ceremony (first of three). The traditional ceremony starts at the groom-to-be’s house. His family prepares baskets of offerings (apples, a pig, wine, etc), and an entourage of his family and male, bachelor friends help him transport them to the bride-to-be’s house. Her family and single, female friends receive the gifts, and then the parents, grandparents, and couple conference about the union. If everything’s copacetic, the family and friends celebrate over a five-course meal, cases of beer, and karaoke.
